J. Renee
A native New Yorker drawing from her diverse Chinese-Jamaican background and musical family, J.Renée began making music in her youth; singing in her parent’s basement to Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Sarah Vaughn.
After graduating high school, J.Renée went on to graduate from Penn State University, the University of Phoenix with an MBA, and the Fashion Institute of Technology. However, she never abandoned her music and art. After a few stints in marketing and real estate, she soon decided to her answer her soul’s calling and pursued her passion.
J. Renée was introduced to the industry in late 2001, when her showcases and demos garnered attention from record labels such as Sony, and Warner Chappell, as well as top executives and producers such as Bryan Michael Cox whom described her voice as “powerful, authentic and engaging “. She frequently drew comparisons to Tamia. But after becoming disenchanted with the limited opportunities for expression for women in music, J.Renée decided to take a much needed break.
“When I was younger in the industry, I felt that everything was happening so fast! It was reaffirming that music is what I am supposed to be doing with my life, but it didn’t feel like it was reaffirming of my identity. It took a toll on my wellbeing. I walked away from it all.”
Now fully reenergized and more confident than ever, J. Renée is a woman filled with a fortified purpose and on a mission: Be grown. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable. As a woman, you define your own impact. She no longer waits for a ‘yes’ from others to create a life she loves. She defines her own success.
Emerging as an independent artist, J. Renée is finally in control of her narrative. Her first reintroduction to her fans, an EP titled “Love Stained” is a reflection of her journey through all the confusing and intoxicating nuances of love — love of life, romantic loss and love of self. Love Stained is set to release Summer 2022.
